Answers to Common Questions

What does the Loomis 24-hour urinalysis reveal?
This is a nutritional test except for the chemstick, which is routinely done in medical offices. The chemstick rules out common diseases such as diabetes, hepatitis, infections and kidney problems and is used to screen for pathologies for referral to medical care. The nutritional part of the test reveals digestive problems (e.g. enzyme deficiencies), nutritional deficiencies (such as calcium, vitamin C, electrolytes), degree of colon toxicity and the allergy pattern.
I use the urine test over blood work because the blood is the last thing to go and that is the first place doctors usually look. Looking at the urine is like peeking at the blood. The blood holds the nutrients it needs (homeostasis) and dumps what is does not need into the urine. If we do not see calcium or vitamin C or electrolytes in the urine, I know that the blood cannot spare them, even though the blood will show normal calcium and vitamin C, etc., until a disease presents itself. Standard blood work will show medical conditions. The urinalysis is prognostic, not diagnostic. In other words, you can predict health trends because they show up nutritionally in the urine before disease shows up in the blood. Whatever you can predict, you can prevent!
What can I expect on this program?
You can expect improved digestion which will reverse or eliminate many discomforts caused by food intolerance (bad digestion). Digestive disturbance/indigestion is probably the most common ailment today. Billions of dollars are spent each year for over-the-counter remedies for heartburn, gas, bloating, acid reflux, constipation, diarrhea and inflammation.
Could a deficiency in enzymes be the primary cause of these chronic problems? Could it really be that simple? I believe there is an enzyme connection to all health problems, and by taking the enzymes that you need this will have a profound effect on wellness.
Do most people respond positively to this program?
Most people respond positively, but results vary. There are several reasons why a person may not achieve his or her full potential on the program. How well can they follow instructions? They may not really believe they can heal themselves. They may need enzymes other than the ones they are taking. They may feel that finding good, clean food and pure water is just too inconvenient. Finally, some people are so sick that they may need desensitization/allergy elimination therapy in order to tolerate food or enzymes.
Some people notice an immediate improvement and others take a longer period of time, perhaps days or weeks to feel better. Your attitude and beliefs play a very important role in achieving and maintaining wellness. Imagine yourself healthy and have a positive outlook on enzyme support.
How long will I have to take enzymes?
- Every “body” needs a multiple digestive enzyme. The other formulas are used as needed for certain nutritional purposes, such as supplying specific vitamins or minerals and so on.
- If you do not know whether to continue an enzyme, stop taking the formula in question and see if the discomfort comes back. If it does, then, yes, you do still need the formula. The only downside to this is that when you first become deficient in a nutrient or enzyme, there are no “symptoms”. Discomfort usually occurs when the deficiency has been there a while.
- Repeat the 24-hour urinalysis test according to Loomis. This will give current information on your diet and what you can and cannot digest, and nutritional deficiencies such as calcium, electrolytes, vitamin C and more.
- If you are in my area, schedule an appointment for a palpation test, which will tell me exactly what you need.
- If you are a long-distance client, you can call my office for a telephone consult.
Together we can figure out what you need.
Are there any side effects from these enzymes?
It is rare, but occasionally a client may react to one of the herbs in an enzyme formula if he or she is extremely allergic to that herb, even though these herbs are predigested by enzymes. In general, if you add an enzyme to an herb to predigest it, there is much less chance of an allergic reaction, but it can happen.
Here are some clinical observations:
- If you have parasites and do not know it, taking a mild multiple digestive enzyme formula which is low in protease (digests proteins) can trigger a parasite attack such as extreme itching. If this happens, I will need to rush you a bottle of TRMA which is a high protease formula. One to three doses usually gives relief due to the fact the protease digests the parasites.
- If you experience loose stools or diarrhea, it is usually due to the elimination of parasites, more commonly large ones instead of small ones.
- Understand that enzymes do WORK in the body – you cannot stop them. They are like little “pac men” and digest toxins in the body. These toxins must be eliminated through the urine and the feces. I usually give drainage formulas, such as KDY, which helps the kidneys cleanse the blood and TRMA, which also cleanses the blood
- Clients with gastric problems (hiatal hernia, gastritis or ulcers) cannot take formulas high in protease (such as BIL, HCL or TRMA) with food as the increased acid from protein digestion will exacerbate their condition. These people must first take the STM formula to nourish the unhealthy mucus cells lining the stomach and the epithelial lining of the digestive tract.
Do enzymes interfere with prescription drugs?
Enzymes can make drugs work more efficiently. This may cause lower doses of the drug to be required and drug monitoring is advised. For example, enzymes have a modulating effect on blood pressure. So, if you are taking blood pressure meds, it is wise to monitor your blood pressure daily. If you are taking medication for diabetes, it is wise to monitor your blood sugar daily. If you are taking asthma drugs, be sure to take your enzymes before you take those asthma drugs to find out if you need less medication. Certain enzymes can help support normal function during chemotherapy without suppressing the positive medical effects of the therapy. I recommend consulting with your health care provider regarding taking enzymes along with prescribed drugs.
Can I take enzymes if I am pregnant?
Yes. Since a baby is formed from what the mother eats and digests, a poor diet and/or digestion during pregnancy can lead to health problems in the baby.
Can I give enzymes to my pets?
Absolutely! Dogs and cats respond to enzymes much the same as people do. Pets get the same health problems as people for the same reasons – poor digestion and a bad diet.
